You can be your own spotlight

So someone told me to update my blog, to give her something to read to improve her english. Even though, really, there are so many amazing articles/stories by so many amazing writers out there, I can't even wrap my mind around it.

Today I shall talk about, the miracle that is Star Trek. I cannot shut up about it. I can't believe I got into this a year late, it's like, where have i been? But that does not negate its amazing-ness. The Cast! The Plot! The Lensflares! JJ Abrams may be my new hero, except for the part where that spot has been taken by Zachary Quinto. Or Chris Pine, I haven't really decided.

Does that look like a good time, or what?

I have to admit, I was previously not a fan of Zachary Quinto, aka Sylar. Heroes was a little...convoluted? Zach basically spent his scenes working the well-defined eyebrows and angular features, slicing cheerleaders heads open, which I guess is equal parts awesome and creepy, since I think he ate the brains. But now he's Spock, the logical emo-repressive half-Vulcan with and Epic Bromance!

Spock. He is awesome. Young Spock is a button!

Young Spock (to bullies): I presume you have prepared new insults for me today.

Bully: Affermative.

Young Spock: This id your 35th attempt to illicit an emotional response from me.

See! Awesome! What 12? year old talks like that? Young Spock, that's who.

On the other hand, Chris Pine. At first glance, he brings to mind a kind of...pretty boy airhead frat boy. I'm sorry. He is, of course very good looking, which I think tends to be a kind of all encompassing factor in his landing roles for movies, seeing as how his past claims to fame was a Princess Diaries sequel and a Lindsay Lohan movie. So his casting in Star Trek probably came as a surprise to some. Would he be able to pull off the role of Captain Kirk, the shoot-first-ask-questions-later, genius level repeat offender, youngest captain in Starfleet history, savior of Earth? The answer turns out to be: Why, yes. yes he can.

Chris Pine as Captain Kirk: Bar brawler. Vulcan provoker. Incidental hotass.

James T. Kirk: What is it with you, Spock? Hm? Your planet was just destroyed, your mother murdered, and you're not even upset!
Spock: If you are presuming that these experiences in any way impede my ability to command this ship, you are mistaken.
James T. Kirk: And yet you were the one who said that fear was necessary for command. Did you see his ship? Did you see what he did?
[pause]
Spock: Yes, of course I did.
James T. Kirk: So are you afraid or aren't you?
Spock: I will not allow you to lecture me about the merits of emotion.
James T. Kirk: Then why don't you stop me?
Spock: Step away from me, Mister Kirk.
James T. Kirk: What is it like not to feel anger... or heartbreak... or the need to stop at nothing to avenge the death of the woman that gave birth to you?
Spock: Back away from me.
James T. Kirk: You feel nothing! It must not even compute for you! You never loved her!
[Spock snaps, attacking Kirk and choking the shit out of him against the console]

The emotion inherent in this scene is so amazing, I cannot even deal.

My parting sentiment, by Spock Prime:

Space: the final frontier. These are the continuing voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her ongoing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life-forms and new civilizations; to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Live long and prosper, bitches.
